Hi Greg,

Quite a timely email from you. I am currently in Portland Oregon on Sabbatical leave and specifically conducting research on E-bikes. I gave a seminar here last week which is available over the web. The link is http://www.cts.pdx.edu/seminars/index.php - you have to scroll down through the list of the seminars to find mine from 21 May. Feel free to circulate details to you group or add the link on your web site. There are options to stream or download the presentation.

I was aware of the recent (Power Assisted Pedal Cycle) review and find it difficult to understand the scientific as opposed to convenience factors behind the recommendation to adopt the EU standard. This is an area where I have had some involvement over the years. Rather than advocating for a particular standard, my position today is that we need a scientific and defensible basis for informing the discussion about what an appropriate standard should be and that the discussion needs to be framed in the context of sustainable transport as a whole rather than a limited risk minimisation perspective which often dominates when road safety is made an overriding consideration.

Regards,

Geoff

Call for road rules review
These eminent persons support a call for a review of regulations that prohibit legal use of hybrid pedal/ motor vehicles on Australian roads and that their sustainability merits are such that this be high priority.
If you appreciate HybriPed and you are able, please help to support it.
