Serious utility cycling on Australia's National Ride to Work Day

National Ride to Work Day in Australia was held on 15 October 2008. Here are some pics that illustrate utility cycling.

The scones arrived at the Cycleway at Glenorchy by bicycle trailer. There were about 100 community breakfasts around Australia, but how many came bicycle?

Was the motor necessary? Glenorchy is 10 kilometres away from Hobart and time was of the essence in this instance. You be the judge.

In Australia, a bicycle motor which has a power output of more than 200 watts is illegal. The power capacity of this bicycle engine is unknown, but may exceed 200 watts.

Australia's oppressive regulations governing bicycle motors need to catch up with oil depletion, climate change and now the global financial meltdown.

Up at the crack of dawn. Sorry about the flare Date scones & Apricot Delights were very yummy - Courtesy Bakers Delight, Glenorchy - Thanks Mike Like Alfred Hitchcock, in one of his thrillers, the sconemobile somehow snuck into the scene.

Call for road rules review
These eminent persons support a call for a review of regulations that prohibit legal use of hybrid pedal/ motor vehicles on Australian roads and that their sustainability merits are such that this be high priority.
