| Time is one resource that active people often don't have to spare. |
30-45 minutes is as much time you have to commute to work. 30 minutes on a bicycle gives you about 10 kilometres. 30 minutes morning and evening each day on a pedal cycle is all you need for an active, healthy life.
What if your journey to work is 20 kilometres. Is it still feasible to ride a bicycle to work? You might need a bit more. You might need Hybrid Pedal Power.
Hybrid Pedal Cycling: Pedal when you can, motor-assisted when necesary: this is Active Transport and genuine hybrid power.
Environmental Sustainability: When you decide to get serious about your own carbon footprint, you will take a close look at a pedal cycle for everyday/everywhere use.
Safety in numbers (of pedals): Climate-friendly bicycles, motor-assisted bicycles and scooters offer no physical protection to riders. How curious, that the more pedal cycles on the road, the safer it is for all! That is what the research shows. This website celebrates all pedal cycles and HybriPed advocates strategies to encourage more pedal cycles by creating road networks suitable for vulnerable road users, developing rider competency and managing excessive speed.
Regulations: In Australia, bicycles with more than 200 watts power-assistance cannot be registered for use on roads and are therefore technically prohibited. This website develops a compelling case to introduce motor vehicle categories for Light Motor-assisted Pedal Cycles.
Meet Greg Clausen, the inventor
Three years ago, I realized that the twin challenges of peak oil and climate change would radically change our modern, industrial and wasteful way of life. So I decided to do something about it and set out to discover the most environmentally responsible means to travel between work and home, 450 metres up Mount Wellington outside Hobart in Tasmania, Australia.
This journey of discovery lead to an unlikely outcome. I became an inventor with my Ped-Power Sprocket used in the Ped-Power Bike, which allows a cyclist to carry a lightweight motor on a bicycle, while at the same time retaining the full pedal power functionality of a conventional bicycle. My solution delivers a genuine hybrid pedal/power-boosted bicycle, from which the business name HybriPed was born.
Where to from here?
Since June 2007, I have commuted more that 9,000 kilometres on my Ped-Power Bike. There has only been one mishap - black ice on a frosty morning.
Peak Oil, climate change and now the global financial crisis mean that a radical change to our way of life has hit us. We must respond with optimism that we can carve out a sustainable future for the planet. Personal mobility is a fundamental requirement for life as we know it.
This website is dedicated to Hybrid Pedal Power As you trawl through this website, see if are as convinced as I am we are entering the age of Hybrid Pedal Power.
Happy Cycle Commuting
