The sprocket is attached to a bearing (bi-directional freewheel) which is screwed onto a boss such that the wheel axle is the centre of rotation of the bearing.

During 12 months and 5,000 kms (3,000 miles), the HybriPed has not broken one spoke. The spoke fixture works by fastening tightly onto all spokes on the engine drive side so that there is no fatigue and engine load is evenly distributed around all spokes
